Part of the Four Sisters series, this work combines personal memory, public figures, and imagined personalities through stylised portraiture. Vanessa was inspired by ideas of difference and social distance while developing the personalities within the painting. The top left figure draws from experiences of disability, while the top right references the presence of an older, witch-like character associated with wisdom and survival. The lower figures were inspired by shyness, resilience, and the image of a hunter. Though each figure appears separate in temperament and identity, the work connects them through a shared sense of isolation.
