In this work, a Malabar civet climbs gently onto the woman’s head while she looks straight ahead with an open gaze. The Malabar civet, once found across the forests of the Western Ghats, is now rarely seen. A shy creature of the night, it moves softly through its surroundings, careful and quiet. The woman carries markings on her face and wears her jewellery with a sense of memory and belonging. These adornments hold stories of land, culture and identity.
This piece is called Prayer. A prayer that is not spoken loudly, but one that lives within us. A hope that the life around us continues to flourish, that the forests remain alive, and that we remember our place within this shared world. I wish you hear my prayer.
